Chewing Gum City
Downtown Zurich and its clock towers
"the quantity of chewing gum stuck on the
sidewalks of Bahnhofstrasse (...) is quite spectacular"
Switzerland. We were finally
going to get out of flat Denmark to be surrounded by majestic snow-caped mountains
and beautiful lakes...or so we thought. Although we did know Zurich was not
in the Alps, we kind of imagined it to be a bit more mountainous, a bit more...spectacular.
Now the only spectacular things we found about Zurich were not necessarily
spectacular in a positive way. For example, the quantity of chewing gum stuck
on the sidewalks of Bahnhofstrasse -the main street- is quite spectacular
(I honestly have never seen so many in my lifetime), as well as the legendary
impatience of every single Swiss we met (Steve-O...you're THE exception).
On a more positive note, Zurich offered lots of shopping. The downside? (because
there's got to be one with Zurich of course) The prices are so high that
they are not even on the tags. The age of the Zurich population must be also
quite elevated because quite frankly, I had never seen a baby-less or even
kid-less or worse...teenager-less city in my entire existence. Ken and I
were probably the youngest around and well, we aren't that young anymore.
What were we doing there? After picking up a couple of Luxemburgelis at the
Lindt store, we wondered no longer and decided to hit the road. Auf Wiedersehen
Zurich!
A pretty spot close to our $20 parking (good rate for 3 hours, huh?)

Ken posing downtown Zurich. Do we see a bit of a hill in the background?

Eating my first and last Luxemburgeli in front of the Lindt store (even
the Luxemburgeli wasn't spectacular...and I guess their chewing gum isn't
either. You can see a sample next to me on the sidewalk: white ones are newest,
grey spots are probably 2 day old or so, black spots...5 days? hehe)
