but I am telling you, it really was February!)

"(...)except for the mountain we were on, everywhere
else was entirely flat and snowless. Artifical snow, you say? You bet!"
Although we did try to go skiing
in Alabama (yes, they did have a ski resort in the North of the state),
we never got around to it; or rather, the weather never got around to offering
the resort the needed conditions to start up the season. Fortunately for
us (or so we thought), we soon moved to Scandinavia and thought we'd get
to ski every week-end we'd have the itch to. Unfortunately for us, Denmark
is rather flat (read: completely flat). When we inquired about skiing, some
lady burst into laughter telling us Scandinavia had nothing but cross-country
skiing unless we were willing to drive 10 hours up into Sweden to find a
"little hill". That didn't seem worth it and we simply abandonned the idea
of close-by skiing. There was no snow on the grounds anyway so where would
we ski? "At Vallåsen?" suggested a friend. Why not?, we thought after
checking out their website. It was a small hill, but it was something like
1-2 hours away off the coast, not 10-12! It ended up being a real nice day
of skiing. I must admit I was a little thrown off by the Spring skiing conditions
right in the middle of winter but I'll definitely take a mild winter day over
a cold whipping one. It was just a little bizarre to turn my head back on
the chairlift to see that except for the mountain we were on, everywhere else
was entirely flat and snowless.Artifical snow, you say? You bet!

cutesy couple on the slopes! :) Just kidding )
