And we still sing "Que Viva Espana"!

Driving to Masca, an old pirate village newly accessible by road: one of the craziest thing I've done!
(The "lines" you see are the roads...and not one way ones at that!)

"
too much of a visual stimuli to absorb it all"

Tenerife: The place that's got it going on. Great newly paved roads everywhere; Fluid traffic (pretty rare for an island);  Desallinated water so water never is a  problem; Windmills for power so the locals don't have to be cut off in favor of the tourists in need of a warm shower, without forgetting activities and strong church presence so the youth stays busy and well behaved (which sometimes results in scarce grafitis that read "Espana, te amo" (Spain, I love you)). Now, Tenerife has got to have it all figured out. The place is a terrestrial paradise that will haunt you from the moment your feet touch the Spanish soil at the airport and will never cease to captivate you from that day on. Once you are there, nothing else matters. It's an instant soother, an instant feeling of warmth that will cling to you for the rest of your stay. Ken still speaks of how he wouldn't mind retiring there. Neither would I, and yet, it's an island we speak of. But this island, has got it all: City, countryside, beaches, mountains, you want it, you name it: Tenerife's got it. The place is simply synonymous with happiness.  If you read the article that mentionned how Denmark is the happiest place on earth and actually believed it...you got it all wrong.  Tenerife has got to be. Everything is so colorful. It's like a child' painting : Colorful cars, colorful flora, colorful birds...and people. They always seem to be having the best day of their life and it seems contagious. You can't help but sing along, bust a move and laugh with them. Unfortunately, pictures can't capture the feeling of this paradisiac place. Pictures could barely capture the beauty of the place. You've got to experience it and see it with your own eyes.  And even then,  your eyes won't believe it. I know mine didn't. It was too much of a visual stimuli to absorb it all.

A pure volcanic beach: becoming a rarity in Tenerife. The island imports sand from the Sahara to mix it with theirs.

View of Masca village. Buried in the mountain, it must have been 10 degrees cooler than the rest of the island at that point.

El Teide! 15 degrees cooler (see the snow?). Highest mountain of Spain. Third largest volcano on earth. No wonder we drove 1 hour through the clouds to get there. Last erupted in 1909, it's 7000m above the sea level of Tenerife. It is one of the 16 Decade volcanoes (closely monitored for many volcanic hazards, recent geological activity and closeness to thousands of people)

Looking for a beach to see the sunset. No beach found but a beautiful spot nonetheless.
